We arrived in Bahia Honda, set up camp and had an evening diversion into Downtown Key West for a beautiful sunset then fried key lime pie in Marathon.
Day 2 at Bahia Honda was swimming, snorkeling, swimming. We caught, retrieved and rescued lobsters, crabs, starfish, sea urchins and Ghost traps.
After a 50 mile stretch of a barren road, we arrived at Flamingo Campgrounds in the Everglades. We experienced "predatory vultures" that attacked Bridget's top and we paddled alligator infested waterways in our inflatable kayak.
Only a short drive from home, but we find the only natural limestone caves in Central Florida - Dames Cave. From there we drive north and submerse ourselves in the cool waters of Manatee Springs.

Leaving Mississippi behind we take a detour from our planned path to visit New Orleans and the world famous Cafe Du Monde for a plate of warm sugar covered beignets.
From the bug infested swamp of Tickfaw through the barren Louisiana back country we finally found our way to some great food in Texas (Texas/Louisiana border) while on our way to South Toledo Bend State Park.
After a gentle mountain climb Beavers Bend State Park was the farthest point west in this adventure and well worth the trip!

Our travels take us through towns of varying sizes of "small", some more isolated than others. Lake Bruin fit that description perfectly. The small town was welcoming and as quaint as they come!
